This is a kind of cancer that occurs in the cells that layer the skin surface (epidermis) and gradually spreads to the other organs in the body. The chances of a person getting this cancer are increasing, as days pass. A survey indicates that a huge number of people in the United States are affected by this disease every year. It can be seen that the basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and the Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) are the most commonly found cancers in the people here.
A huge population of people all over the US, Canada, and many other countries are said to be affected with this disease. The causes of Squamous Cell Carcinoma ( SCC ) are numerous and the most dominant factor that is considered to be the cause for this disease is the type of skin a person has. Usually those people who have skin that is quite sensitive to heat, red hair, pimples on the face etc are found more prone to this disease.
Another important reason that may cause this disease is the exposure to sun over years. The UV rays from sun which may get deposited on the tissues can be a cause for SCC. The lips, face, neck are etc are the places that get easily affected with this cancer. Even for a person who works in the midst of tar, oil etc and other substances that may cause cancer, this disease is much more likely to affect. This includes people who work with such carcinogenics materials, or even patients who undergo treatments for transplantation of organs, AIDS patients etc. A deeply wounded skin can also be one of the causes for this disease.
Spotting skin cancer is not very easy. If you doubt of having this disease, a doctor should be consulted immediately. They will be able to diagnose the disease easily through tests or biopsies. The symptoms of this disease begin with the skin becoming light grey or yellowish at some particular places. A slow and painless stage will then turn into a painful and rapid stage. Once it has taken root in your skin, it spreads quickly to other organs. There are no such methods as to prevent being affected by this disease. All you can do is to avoid the sun rays as much as possible, to escape from the UV radiations, get deep wounds treated quickly, without allowing them to cause blisters and puss, avoid being near tar, oil etc for a long time and take other precautions that can keep you away from Carcinogenic substances. Though there are several diseases that may resemble skin cancer, you need to make sure that it is indeed SCC, before taking any treatment for it.
The aftereffects of this disease may be severe, starting from disfiguration to even death, at final stages. If you have been detected with this disease, you need to get the treatment for it, as soon as possible. There are many treatments available today, including Moh’s surgery, cryosurgery, curettage, radiotherapy, laser treatment etc. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, hence, think well and take the right decision, after consulting with your doctor.
