Epithelial Carcinoma Cancer – Types , Symptoms & Treatment Options

One of the most important forms of ovarian tumor is Epithelial Carcinoma. It usually affects adult women from the formation of cancer around the cells around the ovary. It accounts for almost 60% of tumors that are diagnosed and about 80% for tumors that are malignant.

You will find five different types which are Serous Ovarian Cancer, Mucinous Ovarian Cancer, Endometrioid Ovarian Cancer, Clear Cell Ovarian Cancer, and finally Transitional Cell Ovarian Cancer. Serous Ovarian cancer is the popular and perhaps the hardest to spot until the tumor spreads on the cavities. They are usually benign if women is fifty years or younger.

However, as a woman grows older, her chance that the tumor will be malignant greatly increases. Women, who always have family history of different members suffering from Serous Ovarian cancer, are most likely to get affected by it. The good thing here is that the recovery rate is extremely high where almost 70% of women who were diagnosed early were able to recover completely. Mucinous is less common from serous cancer as it makes up only 25% of all the cases. It usually affects women who are between the stages of puberty and beginning menopause.

Almost all the tumors are found to be benign where only 15% have been found to be malignant tumors. Women who are diagnosed to be suffering from mucinous cancer at the early stages have a 95% opportunity of getting diagnosed. The third type is Endometrioid cancer where the tumors are malignant most of the time and it only makes up around 20% of cancer cases. The tumor also looks similar to the endometrial glands and it usually develops to different branches that affect the surrounding tissues and cells which in turn lead to the tumor growing and becoming solid.

Common treatments used are surgery to remove the tumor and chemotherapy. Usually they can be used individually or combined is the case is serious. The fourth type is clear cell cancer which develops to conjunctions and different Endometrioid tumors. This is perhaps the most serious type of ovarian cancer. However, if it is detected early, then chances of recovery increase. The last type is called transitional cell cancer which is also known as Brenner tumor.

The size of the tumor varies where it can be very small or very large. The tumors may also consist of different types of fluids that need to be extracted with the tumor as well. If the tumor starts affecting the tissue, then the possibility that it is a malignant tumor increase. All these different types of cancer can be treated if they are detected in the early stages. This is why women are usually advised to contact their doctor immediately if they experience any strange or painful symptoms.

Most women ignore symptoms or lumps which is why the cancer is often detected very late. You should also remember to sit down with your doctor and understand the different types of treatments he will use. You should also follow the doctor’s instruction after you recover fully, as there is always a chance that the cancer can come back.
